WIC Campus Connect Program Launch

West Island College recently launched a new WIC Campus Connect program to support its upcoming and most recent graduates. The WIC Campus Connect program will pair graduating WIC students with other WIC alumni currently enrolled in university with similar program concentrations and interests.

This year students from sec 5 will have the opportunity to hear from our mentoring alumni currently studying a wide range of programs and specializations. This week the students virtually connected with Kaela O’Connor ’14, working on a master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and Montana Séguin ’15, studying Health, Kinesiology, and Applied Physiology at Concordia University. Both WIC alumni openly shared their experiences of transitioning to university and the steps that lead them to focus on health science. They also took the time to answer students’ questions and concerns.

Kaela and Montana agreed that adjusting to post-secondary studies can be difficult, and establishing a support system early on is critical in minimizing stress. The WIC Campus Connect program hopes to ease the students’ transition by introducing them to a WIC alumni support network before their CEGEP and university journey begins.
