West Island College is proud to have been the alma mater of Devon Levi, the talented goaltender currently playing for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL). Here’s a closer look at Devon’s impressive career and his time at WIC.
Devon attended West Island College, where he was a valedictorian and excelled both on the ice and in the classroom. After completing his studies at WIC, he took online courses from Athabasca University while pursuing his hockey career.
Devon began playing street hockey with his father and developed a passion for the game at an early age. He played youth hockey for the Lac St-Louis Lions of the under-18 Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League in the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QMAAA) in 2016-19, starting as their youngest player in his first season at just 14 years old. He quickly made a name for himself in the league, earning multiple awards and breaking records along the way.
In 2019, Devon was named the MVP at the World Junior A Challenge and was also named the 2019-20 Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) MVP and top goaltender. He went on to play for the Canadian national junior ice hockey team at the 2021 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, where he set a new tournament record with a .964 save percentage and was named the tournament’s Best Goaltender and to the tournament All-Star Team.
Devon’s talent did not go unnoticed by NHL teams, and he was drafted 212th overall by the Florida Panthers in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. In 2021, his rights were traded to the Buffalo Sabres, and he made his NHL debut on March 31, 2023, recording 31 saves in a 3-2 OT win over the NY Rangers and earning the first star of the game.
At WIC, we recognize the importance of providing opportunities for personal and professional growth, as well as the value of hard work, dedication, and teamwork. Devon Levi embodies these values, both on and off the ice. His passion for hockey, his commitment to his team, and his drive to succeed are qualities that we admire and seek to foster in the young people we work with.
We strive to provide our students with the tools and resources they need to achieve their goals, both academically and athletically.
