Head of School Message
Welcome to West Island College,
Our school website offers a first glimpse into our community, but a great school is not defined by its pixels, but by its people, its purpose, and its strategic plan for improvement. As I begin my twelfth year as a Head of School and embark on my second mandate at West Island College (WIC), I return with a renewed connection to my roots and a strengthened commitment to the stewardship, sustainability, and continuous evolution of our school community.
Education at WIC is a deeply personal journey where the core values of Belonging, Growth, and Integrity come to life every day. As our students navigate the transformative years of adolescence, we offer them a safe and stimulating environment where they are truly seen, heard, and valued. Each young learner embraces the spirit of the Voyageur, embarking on a journey of self-discovery, exploring new horizons, and charting their course with confidence and courage. Our staff, educators, and leaders accompany each of our Voyageurs, acting as mentors and offering the relational trust and safety they need to expand their horizons, take risks, and grow. WIC is a dynamic, connected global family of students, staff, parents, and generations of alumni who support the stewardship of our CAIS-accredited school.
A defining strength of West Island College is our unique bilingual identity, deeply anchored in our daily life. We proudly operate as both an entirely francophone school and an anglophone school, harmoniously united under one roof. French is not just an isolated subject; it is a vibrant, living language that animates our classrooms and hallways and shapes our interactions. This rich linguistic environment is a source of shared experiences, allowing students to learn, laugh, and communicate in at least two languages, deepening their empathy and cultural understanding while preparing them to become compassionate and effective global citizens. The concept of respect is woven tightly into every step of this Voyageur experience, practiced in all its essential forms: respect for oneself, respect for others, and respect for our shared environment.
