WIC alumnus (2014 graduate) and current McGill University student, Andrew Knopp, recently played Rugby 7s (July 5th to 7th) for Canada at the 2019 FISU games (International University Sports Federation) and the World University Championships in Napoli.
Knopp’s team played against Japan, France and Italy in the round robin tournament. Five athletes and one coach were selected from McGill based on previous tournament results and more specifically, the National University 7s tournament.
Andrew who plays wing was the only Quebec native selected.
Presently studying physical and health education at McGill, Andrew got his real start playing the game in high school through WIC’s rugby program, driven by devoted coaches Mme. Simard and Headmaster Martin Bailly.
As a token of his gratitude and appreciation to WIC, and more importantly the coaches for the launch of his sports career, Andrew will be giving one of the jerseys to the school to encourage future rugby players to pursue the sport after high school.
