Choosing a career path is an important step — one filled with curiosity, questions, and opportunity. On November 6, West Island College proudly welcomed 14 alums back to campus for this year’s Alum Career Fair, where Secondary 5 students had the chance to learn from graduates who’ve walked the same halls and forged diverse career journeys.

The gym was alive with energy as students engaged with 14 returning alums, eager to learn about the many paths that lie ahead. Throughout the afternoon, students asked questions, shared ideas, and gained a deeper understanding of how varied and rewarding career journeys can be.
Alums spoke openly about their experiences, the challenges they faced, and the lessons that shaped their growth. Their stories offered students not only guidance for the future but also a reminder of the courage and curiosity it takes to follow one’s passions. For the graduates returning to WIC, it was a moment to reflect, connect, and contribute — passing on insights that might spark the next big step in a young Voyageur’s journey.
The day wasn’t just about career advice; it was about connection. Students and alums alike left inspired, motivated, and reminded of the strong, supportive community at the heart of the Voyageur journey.
Sonia Marcone ’05, Neuropsychologist at CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, reflected on how engaged and curious the students were about their future. “The students were genuinely interested about what life looks like after WIC. You can tell they are putting a lot of thought into their path.”
Evan Horner ’08, Owner and Director of SportLife, noted how insightful the students’ questions were. “The students asked great questions, like what kind of obstacles and challenges I face and how I tackle them. Really thoughtful questions for high school students, I was truly impressed.”
Daniel Goodman ’10, Senior Associate at Cushman & Wakefield, shared how much he enjoyed taking part in the event. “I would do this every year! It’s so great to be back at WIC”.
Students also spoke about how meaningful and eye-opening the day was for them. “I learned that it’s not always a straight path to our career — and that’s okay!” said Bailey, Sec. 5 student.
Brody, Sec. 5 student, reflected on the importance of relationship skills: “Every alum that I spoke to mentioned how important it is to have good people skills. I realized that applies to every career.”
Marcus, Sec. 5 student, shared this takeaway from his conversations: “Speaking with the entrepreneurs taught me that thinking of a solution to a problem you have is a great way to come up with a business opportunity.”
As the event came to a close, one key takeaway stood out: every career story is unique. The advice, experiences, and reflections shared by our alums reminded students that growth often comes from exploration and persistence. No matter the path they choose, each Voyageur carries forward the values of learning, resilience, and community that define the WIC experience.
