As part of Homecoming 2025, the WIC community gathered on Thursday, September 25th, for a panel discussion titled Voyageurs Connect: Learning as a Community. The panel, which brought together parents, alums, students, and friends of the school, showcased a diverse range of perspectives on how the world of work is evolving. This rich and inspiring conversation enlightened us about the various ways to navigate this change with purpose, resilience, and heart.

The panel featured five extraordinary alums, each a true embodiment of the Voyageur spirit – curious, community-minded, and committed to continuous growth. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences brought a rich tapestry of perspectives to the discussion. The evening was masterfully moderated by Nadine Ishak ’92, Video Producer at Bell, who guided the conversation with warmth, clarity, and intention. Nadine’s ease in drawing out both depth and candour from each panellist helped turn the evening into something truly special: not just a discussion, but a shared experience.
This event was made possible by the Rosen Entrepreneurship Fund, established through the generosity of Lewis and Talie Rosen (WIC parents), to inspire and support the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.
A Fantastic Lineup of Voyageur Voices
In discussing AI and the future of work, Jean Fahmy ’93, Vice President of AI & Data at Kruger Inc., offered a balanced and hopeful perspective. While acknowledging the rapid evolution of AI, he emphasized the importance of preserving our humanity in the process. “The one thing AI can’t do is make us feel,” he said. “It will never replace human connection.” His remarks reminded the audience that our most enduring strengths—empathy, creativity, and emotional intelligence—remain irreplaceable.
Justin Orleans ’09, Assistant Vice President at Robert Half, brought a timely perspective on the shifting dynamics of today’s workplace, particularly for Gen Z professionals. His reflections not only highlighted how younger generations are reshaping expectations but also encouraged attendees of all ages to embrace change and stay curious across their careers. His words were a source of motivation and inspiration for all of us.
When discussing the role of women in STEM, Kelly Pike ’94, Vice-President and Head of Biology at Ventus Therapeutics, spoke powerfully about overcoming internal barriers to growth. “Women and girls often hold back from starting new things because they suffer from perfectionism and feel they need to have all the answers before starting,” she shared. “You don’t need to have all the answers to succeed.” Her message landed with strength and clarity, particularly among students and young professionals in the room.
The conversation turned to purpose-driven work with Kendra Pomerantz ’09, Senior Manager of Impact Measurement and Management at Canada Growth Fund Investment Management. She offered insight into the growing field of impact investing—where long-term financial goals intersect with meaningful social outcomes. Her passion for aligning work with values demonstrated that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of purpose.
Nick Saltarelli ’06, Co-Founder of Mid-Day Squares, brought entrepreneurial energy and openness to the conversation. With a blend of humour and candour, he shared the real ups and downs of launching a consumer brand. His journey showed that with grit, authenticity, and a clear vision, bold dreams are not only possible—they’re worth chasing.
Community, Connection, and the Voyageur Way
The event left a lasting impact on the audience, inspiring them to embrace change and purpose in their own lives. What made this panel truly exceptional was the authentic connection between the speakers – and with the audience. More than a presentation, the event felt like a conversation among peers, rooted in shared values and mutual respect. There was laughter, reflection, and a palpable sense of encouragement in the room.
This is what it means to be a Voyageur: to be open to change, guided by curiosity, and committed to supporting one another on the journey forward. Whether exploring the frontiers of AI, biotech, entrepreneurship, or social impact, each panellist showed us that success is not only about what you achieve, but also how you bring others with you.
